School Does Something Outrageous To Boy Wearing American Flag Shirt- Then His Mom Steps In…

Shelly Goode’s son, Jaegur, found himself in trouble Monday after a school administrator asked the young man to lift his gray hoodie.
At the Dallas highschool where he attends, Goode was up for disciplinary action by the school for wearing an American flag T-shirt underneath his hoodie. His mother was not ready to accept the punishment of her son and pushed for answers until the administration was in full retreat.
“Underneath that shirt he was wearing (the American flag) shirt,” said Goode, who said her son was very involved in ROTC and hopes to earn a scholarship through the program.
When the school official saw the American flag T-shirt, Jaegur was immediately sent to in-school suspension. Goode was baffled by the punishment.
“He wants to go into the military,” said Shelly. “He wants to help people, and any bad marks doesn’t look good.”
Seagoville High requires students to wear solid color shirts but makes exceptions for school and college logos or shirts supporting the military.
“If he was breaking the rules, he would be punished and he would have to honor whatever they give him, but he wasn’t, and I have to stand by him for that,” said Goode.
To try to make sense of this, Goode, who works the night shift at a hospital, didn’t sleep on Monday and went to the school. An assistant principal stood by the punishment.
Goode refused to give up. She put her questions in writing, and took her case to a local TV station who also started asking questions. On Tuesday, Goode received a call from the principal. He apologized and said America’s flag can be worn in school. He also said Jaegur’s record would remain clear.
“The fact that acknowledging it is huge, and the fact that they’re willing to stand by and see mistakes and grow from them, that means a lot,” said Goode.
